#11 Album That Rocks My World 2011: Dan Mangan - Oh Fortune
Audio: About As Helpful As You Can Be Without Being Any Help At All
Anyone who has been following my blog knows my love for Dan Mangan. That being said it pains me a bit not to include this album on the top ten. But you know, you need to be objective. But that being said this is an exceptional album on so many levels. It didn’t necessary make the same emotional connection to me as the previous two album, but you could see the maturation and progression musically. This is definitely his most varied (and even accessible) album from a musical standpoint. It is refreshing to see that he is not allowing himself to be confined by the constraints of the label “singer-songwriter”. Along with this being a more textured album from a musical and sonic viewpoint, it also posses many of Mangan’s considerable gifts. He is an insightful, articulate & witty lyricist. His voice also continues to be a powerful emotive instrument. This album is not only worth your attention, but Mangan also deserves a bigger profile (outside of fans of CBC Radio 3). Hopefully this album helps him to continue to do so.
